There are actually many elements of such a vision that are working together. ACID and NoSQL are not the antagonists they were once thought to be; NoSQL works well under a BASE model, but also some of the innovative NoSQL systems fully conform to ACID requirements. Database engineers have puzzled out how to get non-relational systems to work within an environment that demands high availability, scalability, with differing levels of recovery and partition tolerance. BASE is still a leading innovation that is wedded to the NoSQL model, and the evolution of both together is harmonious. But that doesn’t mean they always have to be in partnership; there are several options. So while the opening anecdote is true in many cases, organizations that need more diverse possibilities can move into the commercial arena and get the specific option that works best for them. Data management is becoming more and more central to the business model of enterprises. The time when data was looked at as little more than the byproduct of automation is long gone, and today we see enterprises vigorously engaged in trying to unlock maximum value from their data, even to the extent of directly monetizing it. Yet, many of these efforts are hampered by immature data governance and management practices stemming from a legacy that did not pay much attention to data. Part of this problem is a failure to understand that there are different types of data, and each type of data has its own special characteristics, challenges and concerns. Reference data is a special type of data. It is essentially codes whose basic job is to turn other data into meaningful business information and to provide an informational context for the wider world in which the enterprise functions. This paper discusses the challenges associated with implementing a reference data management solution and the essential components of any vision for the governance and management of reference data. It covers the following topics in some detail: · What is reference data? · Why is reference data management important? · What are the challenges of reference data management? · What are some best practices for the governance and management of reference data? · What capabilities should you look for in a reference data solution?

The future of Master Data Management is deriving value from data relationships which reveal more data stories that become more and more important to competitive advantage as we enter into the future of data and business analytics. MDM will be about supplying consistent, meaningful views of master data and being able to unify data into one location, especially to optimize for query performance and data fit. Graph databases offer exactly that type of data/performance fit. Use data relationships to unlock real business value in MDM: - Graphs can easily model both hierarchical and non-hierarchical master data - The logical model IS the physical model making it easier for business users to visualize data relationships - Deliver insights in real-time from data relationships in your master data - Stay ahead of the business with faster development Download and read the white paper Your Master Data Is a Graph: Are You Ready? to learn why your master data is a graph and how graph databases like Neo4j are the best technologies for MDM.

As companies embrace NoSQL as the “next big thing,” they are rightly cautious of abandoning their investment in SQL. The question a responsible developer or IT manager must investigate is “in which cases are each of these technologies, SQL and NoSQL, the appropriate solution?” For example, cloud provider BigStep offered this assessment: “NoSQL is not the best model for OLTP, ad hoc queries, complicated relationships among the data, and situations when stability and reliability outweigh the importance of speed.” While that statement may be true of many NoSQL databases, c-treeACE is the exception. Its unique, No+SQL architecture offers the advantages of SQL on top of a robust, high-performance NoSQL core engine. In this white paper, you'll read five ways c-treeACE breaks the NoSQL mold in terms of: • Data Integrity • Availability and Reliability • Complex Data Relationships • Flexible Queries • Performance

Separating signals from noisy social listening data has long been a problem for data scientists. Poor precision due to slag, sarcasm and implicit meaning has often made it too challenging to effectively model. Today, however, new approaches that leverage active machine learning are rapidly over taking aging rules-based techniques and opening up use of this data in new and important ways. This paper provides some detail on the evolution of text analysis including current best practices and how AI can be used by data scientists to use this data for meaningful analysis.

Enterprises are faced with new requirements for data. We now have big data that is different from the structured, cleansed corporate data repositories of the past. Before, we had to plan out structured queries. In the Hadoop world, we don’t have to sort data according to a predetermined schema when we collect it. We can store data as it arrives and decide what to do with it later. Today, there are different ways to analyze data collected in Hadoop—but which one is the best way forward?
