NoSQL database technology is increasingly chosen as viable alternative to relational databases, particularly for interactive web applications. Developers accustomed to the RDBMS structure and data models need to change their approach when transitioning to NoSQL. Download this white paper to learn about the main challenges that motivates the need for NoSQL, the differences between relational databases and distributed document-oriented databases, the key steps to perform document modeling in NoSQL databases, and how to handle concurrency, scaling and multiple-place updates in a non-relational database.

curation (noun): The act of organizing and maintaining a collection (such as artworks, artifacts, or data). Data curation is emerging as a technique to support data governance, especially in data-driven organizations. As self-service data visualization tools have taken off, sharing the nuances and best practices of how to use data becomes ever more critical. Analysts at companies from eBay to Safeway and Square are scaling their data knowledge through curation techniques. What are the 4 steps to successful data curation? Find out here:

The primary issue discussed within this paper boils down to two disparate database reliability models: ACID vs BASE. The first (ACID) has been around for some 30+ years, is a proven industry standard for SQL-centric and other relational databases, and works remarkably well in the older, yet still extant, world of vertical scaling. The second (BASE) has only recently gained popularity over the past 10 years or so, especially with the rise of social networking, Big Data, NoSQL, and other leviathans in the new world of Data Management. BASE requirements rose out of a need for ever-expanding horizontally scaled distributed networks, with non-relational data stores, and the real-time availability constraints of web-based transaction processing. While there are now more crossovers and negotiations between the two models, they essentially represent two competing groups, with Brewer’s CAP Theorem acting as the referee in the middle forcing tough decisions on each team.

Application release automation (ARA) tools enable best practices in deploying and promoting applicationrelated artifacts, properties, configurations and even data across an application lifecycle in a safe, predictable and repeatable manner. Gartner reports that using an ARA tool is key to enabling DevOps and achieving continuous delivery. Wikipedia also defines five dimensions of scalability that can apply to ARA tools: • Administrative scalability • Functional scalability • Geographic scalability • Load scalability • Generational scalability This white paper will explain how each of these criteria is relevant when choosing an ARA product that is capable of scaling along with the growth of your enterprise.

Any organization wishing to process big data from newly identified data sources, needs to first determine the characteristics of the data and then define the requirements that need to be met to be able to ingest, profile, clean, transform and integrate this data to ready it for analysis. Having done that, it may well be the case that existing tools may not cater for the data variety, data volume and data velocity that these new data sources bring. If this occurs then clearly new technology will need to be considered to meet the needs of the business going forward.

Incentive compensation represents the potential of delivering optimal sales results. But with up to 60% of sales reps’ income coming from incentive comp, it is crucial to get this right. Our study data has shown that ineffective compensation structures can lead to disengaged reps, high turnover, money left on the table, and low margins. The way we have designed and managed incentive compensation plans in the past may inhibit the sales force and prevent the business from scaling at the needed rate. Modeling and planning quickly become too complex for a spreadsheet-driven exercise.

Connecting to a database requires a number of independent layers. The application needs to incorporate software that establishes the connection and calls to the database. A database connectivity layer needs to be in place to help manage security, communications, and data flow with the database. The database has a set of interfaces that help translate the client requests into actions within the database engine. And with the advent of .NET, the costs of managed versus non-managed code must also be considered.

Standardized, scalable, pre-assembled, and integrated data center facility power and cooling modules provide a “total cost of ownership” (TCO) savings of 30% compared to traditional, built-out data center power and cooling infrastructure. Avoiding overbuilt capacity and scaling the design over time contributes to a significant percentage of the overall savings. This white paper provides a quantitative TCO analysis of the two architectures, and illustrates the key drivers of both the capex and opex savings of the improved architecture.

When it comes to the increasingly complex task of managing data storage, many small and midsize organizations face even greater challenges than large, global enterprises. Small and midsize companies have ever-increasing volumes of information to manage and secure, and they are confronting a number of difficulties when it comes to storage. Among the biggest hurdles: ›› Scaling storage as the business grows rapidly ›› Meeting the rising expense of data storage capacity ›› Dealing with the complexity of management and architecture ›› Devoting precious staff time managing storage and data backup Whereas larger organizations have significant IT budgets and staff to handle storage-related challenges, small and midsize companies lack the IT resources to dedicate to storage management. Fortunately, there are new approaches to data storage on the market that can help such companies address their data storage needs without requiring dedicated storage management resources, while at the same ti
