The tipping point has arrived. Large enterprises are planning their next-generation datacenters around flash-based storage, and for good reason. Flash arrays provide read and write performance that is orders of magnitude faster than spinning media at a total cost of ownership that is on par with disk and will soon be lower. The benefits not only include improved application performance, but more consistent performance, lower latency, reduced storage footprint, streamlined storage administration, and lower operating costs. These advantages are too beneficial to your business to ignore. That’s why flash is becoming the standard for new storage investments.

Download this white paper to learn more about these notable findings from IDC's study of HP DC Service customers. HP Datacenter Care Service can reduce the costs of delivering mission-critical business processes by 23%. HP's Datacenter Care Service solution is able to reduce downtime by 88%, adding five hours of uptime annually to each internal user and $835,000 in revenue to each organization. Increasingly, x86 servers will need a higher level of operational support. On average, companies in this study were able to recognize an average ROI of 456% and pay back the initial investment in HP DC Service in six months.

Today, nearly every datacenter has become heavily virtualized. In fact, according to Gartner as many as 75% of X86 server workloads are already virtualized in the enterprise datacenter. Yet even with the growth rate of virtual machines outpacing the rate of physical servers, industry wide, most virtual environments continue to be protected by backup systems designed for physical servers, not the virtual infrastructure they are used on. Even still, data protection products that are virtualization-focused may deliver additional support for virtual processes, but there are pitfalls in selecting the right approach. This paper will discuss five common costs that can remain hidden until after a virtualization backup system has been fully deployed.

Enterprises are leveraging advancements in what IDC calls “3rd Platform” technologies — cloud, Big Data, mobility, and social — to create new business opportunities and gain competitive advantage. These trends are putting more pressure on IT organizations to transform their datacenter operations to better support business initiatives aimed at reducing costs, increasing revenue, and strengthening customer relationships. This has driven increased demand for converged or integrated systems that provide the tools needed to reduce capital costs, improve operational efficiencies and, ultimately, increase agility within the datacenter.

Datacenter improvements have thus far focused on cost reduction and point solutions. Server consolidation, cloud computing, virtualization, and the implementation of flash storage capabilities have all helped reduce server sprawl, along with associated staffing and facilities costs. Converged systems — which combine compute, storage, and networking into a single system — are particularly effective in enabling organizations to reduce operational and staff expenses. These software-defined systems require only limited human intervention. Code imbedded in the software configures hardware and automates many previously manual processes, thereby dramatically reducing instances of human error. Concurrently, these technologies have enabled businesses to make incremental improvements to customer engagement and service delivery processes and strategies.

The modern enterprise workforce poses new challenges for IT. Today’s employees work in more places, on more devices— personal or company-owned—and over more networks than ever, using a diverse array of datacenter applications, mobile apps, SaaS and cloud services. As they move among apps, networks and devices, IT needs to be able to control access and ensure data and application security without impeding productivity. That means enabling users to get to work quickly and easily in any scenario without having to deal with different ways of accessing each app. Traditional VPNs and point solutions add complexity for both users and IT, increase costs and fail to enable a holistic approach to business mobility. Over the years, many IT organizations have addressed these evolving requirements through point solutions and by case-by-case configuration of access methods. The resulting fragmented experience poses a key roadblock to productivity and increases user frustration. For IT, the lack of a

Today’s enterprises face new requirements for their datacenter and cloud architectures, from keeping pace cost-effectively with fast-growing traffic to ensuring optimal application performance no matter how quickly business needs or the enterprise environment evolve. At the same time, IT must reduce costs and datacenter sprawl, ensure security and uptime, and prepare for a new generation of cloud computing initiatives. While many Application Delivery Controller (ADC) solutions promise to meet demanding customer needs, the reality often falls short. Taking a closer look at the available options and how they measure up against the criteria that matter most, it becomes clear that NetScaler beats the competition—providing better performance and scalability than F5 Networks, Inc.

Microsoft commissioned Forrester Consulting to conduct a Total Economic Impact™ (TEI) study to examine the potential return on investment (ROI) enterprises may realize by shifting some or all their management and operations from on-premises, hosted, and outsourced implementations to Azure’s infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering. The purpose of this study is to give readers a framework to evaluate the potential financial impact, or ROI, of leveraging Azure IaaS for their organizations. Benefits gained by interviewed customers that migrated or re-architected some or all workloads from on-premises to IaaS include: › Greater revenue opportunities from business-to-business (B2B) and customer web channels with a solution that is more mobile and reliable, and meets scale and seasonality needs. › Increased profits from those revenues. › Improved production efficiency. › Reduced datacenter, IT resource, and outsourcing costs. › Easier and faster software and hardware management (such as p

Buy-and-hold strategies can actually add costs to the datacenter, as systems age in place. Not only do hardware maintenance and software maintenance fees rise, over time – but the aging of applications also costs the organization money. Investing in a transition from POWER5 to POWER7 resulted in a return on investment (ROI) of more than 150 percent over three years. An insightful and and compelling discussion by IDC that reviews the primary reason for maintaining current systems -- Return on Investment. IDC studied IBM Power Systems sites that remained on the POWER5 platform long after its initial introduction in 2004. When comparisons to the succeeding generation of POWER7 are made, customers have found that the increase in scalability and performance of POWER7 systems, combined with a reduction in server "footprint" size and overall electrical requirements, resulted in significant reductions in ongoing costs, or opex, per 100 end users supported.
