In this sophisticated threat environment, traditional security tactics are failing. Symantec encourages organizations to revisit their security posture to build a more cyber resilient enterprise. Resilience is not defined by a series of checklists, but through evaluations based on the current threat environment and the acceptable risk level for the organization. This whitepaper presents best practice-based approaches recommended for minimizing cyber risk. These are arranged across five pillars and provide specific actions for each pillar to be performed by identifiable IT jobs.

This IDC Technology Spotlight paper takes a look at why Email remains the primary mode of communication in business today. While there is prevalent speculation that social software and other real-time communications applications will replace email, email nevertheless remains a stalwart in business operations. In addition, as relationships across all business communication channels continue to be redefined, innovative modes and methods of communication are emerging. As a result, locating the right data and information at the right time — while still critical — becomes increasingly complex. IDC expects that organizations will use social software, such as Notes and Domino 9x Social Edition, to complement existing tools and address these business needs for the foreseeable future.

Phishing is defined by the Financial Services Technology Consortium (FSTC) as a broadly launched social engineering attack in which an electronic identity is misrepresented in an attempt to trick individuals into revealing personal credentials that can be used fraudulently against them. In short, it’s online fraud to the highest degree. Although it’s been around for years, phishing is still one of the most common and effective online scams. The schemes are varied, typically involving some combination of spoofed email (spam), malicious software (malware), and fake websites to harvest personal information from unwitting consumers. The explosive rise of mobile devices, mobile applications, and social media networks has given phishers new vectors to exploit, along with access to volumes of personal data that can be used in more targeted attacks or spear phishing. The fact that phishing attacks are still so common highlights their efficacy and reinforces the need to implement comprehensive phishing and response plans to protect organizations. An effective phishing protection plan should focus on four primary areas: Prevention, Detection, Response, and Recovery. High-level recommendations for each of the four areas are outlined in this whitepaper.

Delivering high-quality services with greater speed and efficiency is one of the greatest pressures facing your information technology (IT) infrastructure. The rise of computing in the cloud, expansive mobility options, and increasing pressure to boost application performance have added even further complexity - leading to inefficiencies that can limit your opportunity for growth and success. Traditional, siloed IT infrastructures are often too labor intensive, inefficient, and slow to overcome these challenges. Organizations need a converged, cloud-ready, software defined infrastructure to help them meet the evolving demands of their business. Voice of the customer (VOC) is a market research technique defined as the process of capturing a customer's expectations, preferences and aversions. Ideally, Voice of the Customer analysis produces a detailed set of customer wants and needs that is prioritized by company objectives or strategic goals. What has changed significantly is the volume and number of data sources and channels, inclusive of mobile device, kiosk, POS and tablet that are able to feed into the analysis of contextual VOC information via enabling VOC software, services and technologies.

According to recent ESG research, 70% of IT respondents indicated they plan to invest in HCI over the next 24 months. IT planners are increasingly turning toward HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions to simplify and speed up infrastructure deployments, ease day-to-day operational management, reduce costs, and increase IT speed and agility. HCI consists of a nodal-based architecture whereby all the required virtualized compute, storage, and networking assets are self-contained inside individual nodes. These nodes are, in effect, discrete virtualized computing resources “in a box.” However, they are typically grouped together to provide resiliency, high performance, and flexible resource pooling. And since HCI appliances can scale out to large configurations over time, these systems can provide businesses with investment protection and a simpler, more agile, and cost-effective way to deploy virtualized computing infrastructure. Read this paper to learn more.

A common misconception about hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) is that because data services are software-defined, the hardware doesn’t matter. It’s easy to see why—the software driving HCI solutions such as the Dell EMC XC Series (in this case, Nutanix software) is exceptional. It efficiently manages data and communications across a cluster of nodes and storage tiers, keeping the cluster and virtual machines (VMs) up and running, delivering optimal performance and availability. Software-defined infrastructure is changing the way data services are delivered, making companies more efficient and agile, and reducing costs. Many enterprises recognize the opportunities of APIs, determine that they need one, then work to quickly deliver one to market. However, without a well thought-out strategy and clearly defined roadmap, most of these APIs are brought to market with critical issues that prevent them from delivering expected business results.

The digital financial services world has created an amplified set of challenges for the data center and network. Its role in enabling the success of the wider institution has become even more critical, but to deliver this it needs to provide a higher level of performance with increased agility, while maintaining high levels of efficiency and security. This is forcing institutions to transform their underlying IT capabilities, with the need to simplify the network, obtain more flexible connectivity, automate IT operations, and enable centralized control and administration being core strategies in this respect. As shown in Figure 8, this is driving a number of requirements for the future network. Key considerations for financial institutions in architecture design and vendor selection should be around moving toward a software-defined, intelligent, cloud-ready, and open network that enables the institution to meet its ICT imperatives and achieve these key ICT strategies.

This document is targeted at networking and virtualization architects interested in deploying VMware NSX network virtualization in a multi-hypervisor environment based on the integrated solution from VMware and Juniper. VMware’s Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) vision leverages core data center virtualization technologies to transform data center economics and business agility through automation and non disruptive deployment that embraces and extends existing compute, network and storage infrastructure investments. NSX is the component providing the networking virtualization pillar of this vision. As a platform, NSX provides partners the capability of integrating their solution and build on the top of the existing functionalities. NSX enables an agile overlay infrastructure for public and private cloud environments leveraging Juniper’s robust and resilient underlay infrastructure that also helps bridge the physical and virtual worlds using the L2 gateway functionality.

The bank wanted to modernize its global data center core and edge networks to move to the next stage of its private cloud journey. The bank has long recognized the advantages of server virtualization, and it wanted to move more aggressively to a software-defined data center. The bank was virtualizing all services, including compute, storage, and network, to gain greater business flexibility and deliver cost savings. But first, it needed an elastic, flexible, and production ready network to connect its data centers. The bank wanted a dynamically scalable network to interconnect its data centers in Europe, Asia, and North America, so that it could move toward a fully automated, self provisioned cloud. The global network needed to deliver performance at scale for the company’s highly virtualized resources, while also supporting integration of legacy assets into its software-defined data centers.
