According to the 2016 State of Endpoint Security Survey released by the SANS™ Institute 44% of respondents report that one or more of their endpoints have been breached in the past 24 months. - Desktops, laptops and servers are the most compromised endpoints - Login and access credentials are the most commonly exfiltrated information - 55% of respondents spend 3 or more hours per compromised endpoint - Over 70% of respondents find it difficult or impossible to determine when an incident is fully remediated These statistics encompass a wide set of industries, from financial services to education. So while each network is uniquely built to support your particular business, none is immune from being breached."

The perimeter continues to dissolve, and the definition of endpoint is evolving, according to results of the SANS 2016 Endpoint Security Survey, now in its third year. As we might expect, 90% or more consider desktops, servers, routers, firewalls and printers to be endpoints that need to be protected. After that, respondents include other less-typical devices in their definition of endpoints that warrant protection: 71% include building security (access/ surveillance), 59% include employee-owned mobile devices and 40% consider industrial control systems as endpoints that need to be protected. Some respondents also consider POS devices, smart cars, emulated endpoints in the cloud and wearables as endpoints needing protection, highlighting the diversity of thinking among respondents.

The rise of the cloud and mobile computing has rapidly changed the nature of enterprise cybersecurity. The old paradigm, where all work was done behind a company firewall, has been breaking down. Employees work not just at the office, but also on the road and at home, on mobile devices and on their own personal computers. They’re no longer using a limited stack of enterprise applications. Instead, they increasingly require access to a wide variety of apps, cloud services, and new communication platforms.

This book explores the security challenges of virtualization in the data center, at the endpoint, and in the cloud. I explain why using traditional security products built for physical systems is a mistake for virtual systems. Finally, I explain how virtualaware security solutions provide in-depth security without compromising performance in virtual, cloud, and hybrid environments that include a mix of virtual and physical systems.

This 10-point checklist outlines best practices for designing a security architecture that protects cloud data at the endpoint. Enterprise computing architectures have changed fundamentally in the last ten years, as employees consume an ever-growing collection of business cloud services through mobile apps. The traditional security approach of network perimeter and locked-down endpoints is not suitable for this app-to-cloud model of modern work.

If you function like most IT organizations, you've spent the past few years relying on mobile device management (MDM), enterprise mobility management (EMM) and client management tools to get the most out of your enterprise endpoints while limiting the onset of threats you may encounter. In peeling back the onion, you'll find little difference between these conventional tools and strategies in comparison to those that Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) have employed since the dawn of the modern computing era. Their use has simply become more: Time consuming, with IT trudging through mountains of endpoint data; Inefficient, with limited resources and limitless issues to sort through for opportunities and threats; and Costly, with point solution investments required to address gaps in OS support across available tools. Download this whitepaper to learn how to take advantage of the insights afforded by big data and analytics thereby usher i

IBM QRadar and BigFix solutions empower IT security teams to view, prioritize and respond to endpoint intelligence in near real time. How can an organization stay ahead of these advanced security threats? Maintaining a high level of baseline security by consistently enforcing security policies and patch levels on endpoints and servers is definitely required and important. But when networks can have multiple vulnerabilities per IP address at scan time, the slow process of mitigating and patching these weaknesses can result in dangerous security gaps. Today’s IT personnel have to make difficult, risk-based decisions on where to focus their efforts—often without having a complete picture of the security environment. This is even more critical when the number of vulnerabilities across the organization is increasing while the organization has limited resources and skills to fix the vulnerabilities.
